Early today, I shared breakfast with a fellow farmer, retired Army General and now Secretary of National Defense, Jose Faustino, Jr., in the home of Davao City businesswoman Sol Mananquil.
This was my first meeting with Sec. Boy since he left his post as EastMinCom chief last year to serve a higher post in the National Headquarters.
Sec. Boy used to visit my farm along with Gen. Ruben Basiao, Davao del Norte Gov. Edwin Jubahib and fellow goat raiser, Toto Albano.
We spent long hours talking about free-range chicken and goat raising.
The appointment of this taciturn and humble soldier and farmer as Defense Secretary came as a pleasant surprise to us, his fellow agriculture advocates
Today, over breakfast we still talked about farming and the greatest challenge the country is facing – Food Security.
