Once again yesterday, I had to address head on the persistent talk that I work.as hard as I do because I harbor an ambition to run for a seat in the Senate.
While I was distributing checks, fishing boats and fishing gears during the launching of Project BASIL in Los Baños.yesterday, a group of fishermen said I was ripe to.become Senator.
I had to correct them right there and then because I do not like my actions to be misinterpreted as part of a grand political plan.
For the record and once more with feeling, I would like to declare that I find happiness and fufillment in what I am doing as Secretary of Agriculture now.
I believe that in this capacity, I could be instrumental in addressing poverty in the countryside and producing sufficient food for the country.
I am a personal friend of President Rody Duterte and I would like to contribute to his dream of providing Available and Affordable Food for the Filipino people.
The suspicion that I am harboring political ambitions because of the pace of my work is understandable.
Maybe, this is the first time Filipinos are seeing relentless and non-stop work schedules displayed by Pres. Duterte himself.
But this is who I am. I am used to working hard.
In fact, when I was Governor of North Cotabato I would spend nights in mountain villages sleeping in a tent just to sit down and talk to people at night.
Honestly, as a man who believes in fate and destiny, I do not know where God would lead me.
Right now, I believe that through President Duterte, He brought me to where I could be most useful in uplifting the lives of His.people.
I love my job and I am happy here.
Is this not the essence of a successful life?
So, sorry once again but there will be no Senate run for me.
