I woke up early today, tucked a bolo made in Sikatuna, Bohol to work in the farm but ended up as an early patient in the Emergency Room of the Kidapawan Medical Specialist in Kidapawan City.
I was trying to cut down a pesky Hagonoy shrub in my brother Pat’s farm where we plan to raise some goats when a splinter pierced my forefinger.
Attempts to pull out the splinter failed so I decided to drop by the ER of Medical Specialist where Dr. Ruel Ramon, a friend of my daughter, Dr. Maria Krista A. Piñol-Solis, sliced the tip of my forefinger open to take out the splinter.
Three stitches and two injections, including an anti-tetanus shot, completed the process.
Selfies and picture taking with the friendly doctors and nurses followed.
When I asked for the bill for the doctor’s fee and medicines, I was told that everything was free.
I failed to ask whether the privilege of getting medical services for free was because I am the Secretary of Agriculture or because I am a farmer.
At least, I am not afraid to face the perils of farming anymore knowing that I can enjoy free medical services.
Just the same, the farmer in me dictates that I should give back something in return.
I am sending them four Litson Manok Pinoy for lunch.
