Planting then Marketing! Agri Giant CP Foods Phils.

Our First Sorghum Buyer
The Philippine branch of Thailand’s biggest multi-national agri-aqua company, CP Foods Phils., has thrown its full support for our Sorghum production program.
Even before we could make our first harvest in the projected 2,000 hectares initial area, CP Foods has committed to buy 3,000-metric tons of the feed grains every month.
Yesterday, after overseeing the planting of Sorghum seeds in a demo farm in Makilala, I proceeded to Davao City to meet with CP Foods Executive Vice Pres. and head of Philippine operations Sakol Cheewakoset.
He was joined by Phrateep Tongjan, head of Mindanao operations.
Mr. Sakol shared with me the challenges faced by the livestock and poultry industry because of very high prices of feed materials, especially Corn and Soybeans.
He welcomed the Sorghum project of the Southseas Agri-Aqua Ventures Corp., a company which I and former Senator Ping Lacson along with three other friends.
Sorghum is the third most utilized grains in poultry and livestock production.
It has a 12% to 17% protein content and could grow well in marginal areas with very low water requirement compared to Corn.
With the price of Corn hovering at P25 per kilo, Sorghum is seen as a complement to Corn in feed production.
