Poking Fun At Living Hero!

I very seldom react to toxic posts I read on Facebook but I came across an item today which poked fun at Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, the AFP Chief of Staff for rendering a left hand salute during the rites for President Benigno Aquino III and it really incensed me.

The post said that security guards were better off than Sobejana because they knew how to salute properly.

I was so angry at the insult on a Medal of Valor Awardee, a living hero, that I made this comment:

“si general cirilito sobejana po ay sumasaludo ng kaliwa sapagkat nawasak po ang kanyang kanang braso sa isang encuentro laban sa mga abu sayyaf sa basilan noong sya ay batang opisyal pa lang. for that, he was honored with a medal of valor which is usually awarded posthumously. gusto ng mga doktor na putulin ang kanang braso but he refused. ang pagpupugay nya na gamit ang kaliwang kamay ay simbolo ng katapangan at kabayanihan, hindi katangahan.sana nagtanong-tanong muna kayo bago nyo siya kinutya.”

With this, I would like to ask my fellow Filipinos:

“Where is this toxicity coming from? What is happening to us? Have we become a nation of fault-finders?”

Ganito na ba tayong mga Pilipino ngayon – mapanghamak at mapangutya?

We have to confront ourselves with these questions and find solutions.

Otherwise, this country will drown in hatred and discord.

Kawawa naman ang mga anak natin.
