At Elevation 2,490-meters above sea level, there is a small lake at the Maag Base Camp located in the side of Kidapawan City and Magpet.
Lake Maag is one of the three small lakes at the base of the peak of Mt. Apo, the two others are Lake Venado and Lake Jordan.
I do not know of any other lake in the Philippines located at this height which could make these three as the highest bodies of water in the Philippines.
In the world, the highest lake is Ojos del Salado located in the boundaries of Argentina and Chile which has an elevation of 6,390 meters above sea level, making it more than twice higher than the Mt. Apo lakes.
The presence of these lakes at this elevation makes one appreciate the wonders of nature and the beauty of God’s creation.
To protect these lakes, more Tinikaran or Red Cedar trees endemic to the area must be planted to make sure that the springs from which the water flows from would be preserved.
