Watching “Frontier” on Netflix today, I saw this quote from Abraham Lincoln.
“Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power!” Lincoln said.
How true, indeed!
In the years that I spent as a local government official and now as a member of President Rody Duterte’s Cabinet, I have seen the radical transformation of people when they gain power.
There are those who have remained humble even with immense power.
But there are craven cowards who become tyrants.
Worse, there are those who believe that they are mightier than he who gave them power.
They are like flies on the carabao’s back who believe that they are bigger than the animal on whose back they are perched.
I wonder how they would act and what they would become when their borrowed power is gone!
