In all of the years I had been breeding chicken, both game and meat, I had tried all sorts of chick-rearing systems.
I tried bringing them to the range on Day 1 protected only by teepees.
The rains, however, which fall intermittently in Kidapawan City and areas surrounding Mt. Apo resulted in high mortality.
All sorts and shapes of brooders were also tried but what had been proven very effective is the Double-Chamber Brooder.
The Double-Chamber Brooder is not my original design.
I just saw it in a social media post and tried it.
The result is remarkable as it had raised vigorous and healthy chicks.
I keep the chicks in the Double-Chamber Brooders until the immunization program is completed.
After that, they are brought to an enclosed pen in the yard where they will be let loose at daytime and kept in the shed at nighttime.
