SRP STARTS IN MM, GMA;
REGIONS 2nd WEEK NOV.
Imported premium rice which was sold for P65 to P70 per kilo a week ago is now sold at no more than P43 per kilo while fancy rice names like “Senandomeng” and “Super Angelica” have disappeared in the market following the launching yesterday of reforms in the rice trading and retailing industry.
The Department of Agriculture, Department of Trade and Industry and the National Food Authority yesterday joined hands in launching the Suggested Retail Price (SRP) and Labelling Reform Programs in the Commonwealth Market in Quezon City.
Two weeks from now, Regional SRPs and labelling reforms will also be implemented.
Fifteen days after the launching, DA, DTI and NFA teams backed by policemen will conduct market inspections.
Violators of the SRP and Labelling Guidelines could face cancellation of licences, jail term of up to four years and fines up to P1-M.
