Siquijor – On Friday, I returned to the Island of Siquijor to fulfill a promise I made in 2017 to provide poor fishing families with boats and a small loan fund for their fishing needs.
Six municipalities in Siquijor province, Lazi, Maria, Enrique Villanueva, Larena, San Juan and Siquijor each received 1 unit 30 footer fiberglass reinforced plastic surveillance boat with 1 unit 16hp marine engine and underwater fittings, 20 units 30 footer fiberglass reinforced plastic boat with 20 units 6.5hp marine engine and underwater fittings.
In addition to the fiberglass fishing boats, a loan fund of P2-M was also released by the Agricultural Credit Policy Council to a rural bank conduit which the fishermen could access to support their fishing activities.
During the turn-over of the fishinh boats, I also committed that the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources will establish a floating solar power farm in Siquijor.
This promise will be fulfilled wherever fate will bring me.
