Pure Rhode Island roosters and young hens which I bred out of the stocks I brought in from the US last year are now available for sale to interested backyard poultry raisers.
The Rhode Island Red or RIR is an iconic American backyard chicken breed which is considered dual purpose – meat and egg producers.
The RIR’s produce brown eggs and are very good layers producing between 180 to 260 eggs every year, depending on the climatic conditions.
In my experience in the Braveheart Farms in Kidapawan City, North Cotabato, the Rhode Island Reds are ideal for cross-breeding with indigenous Philippine backyard chicken breeds.
The cross-breeding between the RIRs and the native chicken breeds produce peacombed chicken with very good quality meat comparable to the native Philippine chicken, firm with long muscle strands.
I have about 30 roosters available and about 60 young hens which iI could share with other backyard breeders.
Shipment to Cebu, Manila or Luzon could be arranged.
Those interested, please contact my farm manager, Joyce Tupas at 0920-404-4171.
