Quick release P182-M CROP INSURANCE PAYMENTS READIED FOR TYPHOON VINTA VICTIMS

A total of P182-million in insurance payments will be ready for release this week to over 20,000 farmers in six regions in Mindanao whose crops were damaged by Typhoon Vinta last Dec. 21.

Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) President Jovy Bernabe reported that Central Mindanao, Region XII, will get the biggest share of the insurance payments with P53.4-M covering 5,872 farmers.

The other regions which will also receive insurance payments are:

– Zamboanga Peninsula (Region 9) – P 18.5-M for 3,348 farmers;

– Northern Mindanao (Region 10) – P 42.2-M for 4,439 farmers;

– Davao Region (Region 11) – P 50.1-M for 5,284 farmers;

– Caraga Region (Region 13) – P 16.3-M for 1,735 farmers;

– Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM0 – P 1.2-M for 162 farmers.

Payments for farmers in the Zamboanga Peninsula and Northern Mindanao will be released Jan. 4 and 5 when I and other officials of the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) visit the typhoon-devastated areas.

Shortly after my arrival in Davao City today, I will be meeting with the Mindanao Regional Directors of the DA to conduct an assessment and evaluation of the event of damage and other interventions which could be delivered during the two-day sortie to the two regions.

A ship-load of rice and corn seeds is expected to arrive in the Port of Dapitan today, Jan. 2, to be distributed to farmers whose crops were damaged by the typhoons.

The research ship of the BFAR, M/V DYCA DA-BFAR, was used to transport the seeds in the absence of commercial cargo vessels during the holidays.
