Revive FTI! Bring P110/Kilo Bangus To Buyers In Big Cities

Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay – In the face of the worldwide economic crisis, government could protect Filipino consumers from the rising food prices by establishing a system which would move rural goods to the big cities.
All that needs to be done is to revive and rehabilitate the moribund Food Terminal Inc. to buy and consolidate farm and marine products in farflung areas to be sold in FTI Outlets in the big cities.
This would facilitate the movement of goods and limit the number of middlemen who make more money than the farmers and fishermen and in the process jack up market prices.
The perfect example of this is the story of former Kabasalan Mayor and now Councilor Nonoy Chu who is also a fishpond operator whom I talked with today during a visit to the town.
Councilor Chu’s newly-harvested Bangus with an average weight of 250 grams each or 4 pieces to a kilo is bought at P110 per kilo.
Pagdating nito sa palengke, sigurado sobra P200 per kilo na.
Kailangan ma reactivate agad ang FTI to temper rising food prices.
Ang resulta nito ay gaganahan ang mga farmers and fishermen because there is a ready market.
The system will also protect consumers while creating jobs in the countryside.
