After harvesting Soybeans from our seed production area in New Esperanza, Mlang, we have prepared the field for our first experiment on Rotational Cropping.
Rotational Cropping is a traditional practice of giving the soil a “rest” after harvest by introducing a new crop, usually leguminous plants.
In rice farming, old folks sowed mungbeans or “Monggo” in the paddy after harvest.
In Corn fields, peanuts are the most common rotational crop.
Since I planted Soybeans first, I am now introducing a major crop, Sorghum, which will be in the field for two croppings before I go back to Soybeans again.
This morning, when I checked the field where we had harvested Soybeans, the soil looked really fertile.
Hopefully, my Sorghum harvest will be good with our Rotational Cropping System.
