Senator To Farmer! Rain Pipe Irrigation System Set-Up In Ping Lacson Farm

During the 90-day campaign period that we were together, I repeatedly emphasized to then Presidential Candidate Panfilo Lacson that there are three important elements in crop production – soil, sunlight and water.
Of these three, the most critical and irreplaceable is water.
The lack of irrigation facilities is the main reason why until today the country had not achieved Rice Self-Sufficiency and why wide areas of farm lands had remained unproductive.
Tomorrow, in his small farm in Silang, Cavite where he grows vegetables, peanuts, a few Abuyog Sweet Langka and the Giant Bamboo, I will demonstrate to Ping Lacson a modern irrigation technology which would allow him to produce more.
Since he already has a Solar-Powered Water Pump, I brought in my boys from the farm, led by Malaysia Oil Palm Nursery veteran Ben Sotito, to set up the Rain Pipe Irrigation System which would sprinkle water like rain in the garden of Ping Lacson.
This is the same system which I introduced in Mindanao when we promoted Upland Rice Farming.
Yesterday, the boys went to Raon Market in Manila to buy PVC pipes and a pressure pump to complete the set using the perforated Sumisansui plastic tubes.
Tomorrow, I will show to Ping Lacson and Dra. Minguita Padilla, who will be joining us for lunch, how modern irrigation technology could turn a small farm into a profitable vegetable production area.
Rocky French, the Fil-Am Farmer/Scientist who is helping me with my advocacies on Food Self-Sufficiency, will also join us to conduct an instant soil analysis of Ping Lacson’s farm to guide him on what to plant based on soil suitability.
Rocky will also overhaul Ping’s small Tilapia pond where he said that his Tilapia had only grown to the size of a “Sapsap” because of inbreeding.
