Former members of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), some of them foreign trained yesterday welcomed the Sorghum Growership Program saying it could liberate them from the bondage of exploitative agriculture controlled by traders and middlemen.
“Para kayoing Ginto na nahulog mula sa langit,” said village leader Nhor Tamay who welcomed my visit in Sitio Rebi, Pigcawayan, Alamada, Cotabato.
Present during the early morning caucus were the elders of the village including MNLF Brigade Commander Kasan “Kapid” Tamay and his brother, Libyan-trained Dante Tamay.
Under the Sorghum Growership Program of the Soutseas Agri-Aqua Ventures Inc., a fledgling agricultural company headed by former Senator Panfilo Lacson with me as Chief Operations Officer, landowners in the village will be provided with Sorghum Seeds and farm inputs on credit.
SAAV Inc. will buy the Sorghum grains produced at a pre-agreed price assuring farmers of a ready market with a stable price.
When I introduced the Sorghum Program in Alamada last month, a representative of the village had reached out to our field workers asking if they could be considered for the project.
It was only yesterday when I finally had the opportunity to visit the village and I regret that I. did not come earlier.
Sitio Rebi alone has over 700 hectares of which an estimated 200 hectares could be cultivated using farm tractors while the rest are planted to Kalabasa and Corn manually.
The leaders said they had suffered losses for the longest time and hope that the Sorghum Program with its Growership Agreement could finally give them relief.
