Barangay Malico, San Nicolas, Pangasinan – Mindanao’s Giant Bamboos are now in the mountains separating Pangasinan and Nueva Viscaya.
I and my team traveled for 8 hours today to join in the ceremonial planting of 1,000 Giant Bamboos which originally came from my farm.
Brig. Gen Krishnamurti Mortela, Army Brigade Commander in the area, has introduced the planting of Giant Bamboos as part his command’s Plant for Peace Program.
Local officials of San Nicolas led by Vice Mayor Alvin Bravo also joined the activity along with the tribal leaders in Malico.
Malico, occupied by a local tribe, used to be an NPA stronghold.
Supported by a civic group led by Lyn Ang, Gen. Mortela intends to plant a total of 1,000 hectares to be able to set up a Bamboo Processing Facility in San Nicolas.
I promised to support the project by sending more Giant Bamboo propagules to the Bamboo Valley Corp. Nursery in Cabagan, Isabela.
