Success in Bohol! USE OF OUTSTANDING SEEDS DOUBLES FARMERS HARVEST

Last year, I got into a lively debate with a rice farmer in Talibon, Bohol who said that hybrid and good inbred rice seeds were too expensive.
He said he preferred his traditional seeds which he bought for only P800 per bag as against the P1,500 for Inbred and P4,500 for Hybrid.
No amount of convincing emphasizing that he only gets 3 metric tons per hectare for his local seeds but he would harvest double using better seeds, could change his mind.
In the end, I gave him a bag of Hybrid seeds for free and asked him to compare its performance with his traditional seeds.
Today, I am happy to see this post from Region VII Director Salvador Diputado announcing an average harvest of over 7 metric tons per hectare.
I guess the “hard-headed” farmer is now convinced.
Here is the post of Director Salva Diputado
Right timing in planting rice effectively negated the ill effects of El Nino dry spell in the rice-producing town of Talibon, Bohol as farmers are about to harvest or have already harvested their palay.
Rice farmers in Talibon are enjoying a record-high harvest of 7.8 mt following the use of high-yielding rice varieties after last year’s Rice Derby attended no less by Sec Manny Pinol.
Talibon Mayor Restituto Auxtero also expressed satisfaction over another bountiful harvest this year n thanked DA7 personnel for the various interventions that brought about wonderful results in rice yield.
