Upi, Maguindanao del Norte Farmers Cooperative Chairman Ruben Platon has confirmed that Sorghum grows well in the undulating and rolling lands of the town.
Ruben Platon,a lawyer who served as Mayor of Upi, forwarded a video of the on-going harvest of his Sorghum in a rolling area which was planted manually using the traditional “Tagad” or Zero Tillage farming.
Initial report of harvest from a 1-hectare area owned by farmer Jojo Rodriguez posted over 5-metric tons of grains.
This encouraging result could spur a massive Sorghum farming in both Upi and South Upi towns with an estimated area of 10,000 hectares.
This could also revive traditional Cattle farming in the area because of the Sorghum Silage.
