South, North Upi Farmers Forum on Sorghum and Soybeans Farming will be held tomorrow, May 21, at the Gian’s Restaurant along the South Upi-Lebak National Highway.
The forum arranged by the Darugao United Farmers Marketing Cooperative will formally launch Sorghum Farming with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform.
The forum which starts 8 a.m. will include the following activities:
1. Presentation of the Integrated Farming Program for North and South Upi, Maguindanao – Former Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol;
2. Sorghum and Soybeans Farming Protocols – Agriculturist Julie Llamo, Better Yield Agri;
3. Farmers’ Testimony on Sorghum Resilience to Drought – Farmer Samuel Alim, former Vice Mayor, Alamada, North Cotabato;
4. Cattle and Goat Raising using Sorghum Silage for Feeding – Outstanding OFW Arnel Corpuz (or representative)
5. Actual Demonstration on Silage-Making – by Technical Team, Southseas Agri-Aqua Ventures, Inc.
6. Commitment of Support – MAFAR-BARMM Minister Mohammad Yacob through representative.
7. Open Forum
8. Signing of Sorghum Buy-Back Agreement between SAAVI and individual farmers.
The activity will end with the turn over of initial Sorghum Seeds to Ruben Platon, Chairman of the Darugao United Farmers Marketing Cooperative.
