Governors Nancy Catamco of Cotabato and Wilter Palma of Zamboanga Sibugay are the first of Mindanao 22 Governors who have enrolled in the 5-Session Course on “Water Management and Conservation” conducted by the Mashav Agricultural Training Center of Israel which starts at 6 p.m. today, Philippine Time.
The two Governors will also lead the delegation of Mindanao Governors and Mayors who will be invited by the Israeli Government through its Embassy in the Philippines to visit the tiny but agriculturally advanced country to inspect Water Management and Conservation Facilities before the end of the year.
Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Israel in the Philippines, Nir Balzam, who has engaged the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) in the conduct of the Online Course, will lead the simple opening ceremonies set at 6 p.m.
I have also enrolled myself in the program along with several key officers of my agency in pursuit of MinDA’s advocacy for Water Conservation and Management in Mindanao.
In fact, it was I who requested former Ambassador Rafael Harpaz for the conduct of this short course for Mindanao Governors and Mayors before he left the Philippines for a new assignment.
In today’s first session, Aug. 17, the first lecturer will be Dr. Amir Givati, Chief Scientific Officer, Asgard Systems who will present “The Climate Crisis in the World, in South-East Asia and in the Philippines.”
At 7 p.m. Adv. Omer Vardi, Commissioner of Water and Sewage Corporations Unit, Israel Water Authority will present “The Water Sector in Israel and Urban Water Management.”
The second session is scheduled next week, Aug. 24.
At least 80 participants, mostly local government executives and decision-makers, including University of the Philippines Professor Clarita Carlos, have enrolled in the course.
