Basking in the glory of a landslide victory in his second term as Governor of Davao del Norte, former bus conductor Edwin Jubahib now aims to make his province a trailblazer in a Green Rural Economy Program by engaging Tribal Communities in the Giant Bamboo Production Program.
The program involves the introduction of Giant Bamboo farming in an estimated 5,000 hectares of unutilized Tribal Ancestral Lands with the Provincial Government providing the support for training, education, planting and propagation.
Beneficiaries of the program will also get livelihood program support like the raising of Free-Range Chicken during the 5-year period of gestation of the Giant Bamboo.
What makes this program remarkable is the assurance of a market for the Giant Bamboo poles which the tribal communities expect to harvest after 5 years.
Gov. Jubahib said he will get the support of the Provincial Board in approving the establishment of an Engineered Bamboo Processing Facility which would produce materials for construction and furniture making.
All of these activities will be part of the Economic Enterprise Plan which Gov. Jubahib said will not only generate revenues for the province but start a Green Rural Economy as well which would re-green the denuded mountains while creating jobs and income opportunities for the local people.
With this strategy, Davao del Norte could stand out as a model for an LGU-led Economic Enterprise which addresses many concerns like environmental protection, peace and security, job creation and income generation for both the people and the provincial government.
