The country’s Sugar Capital will also be known soon as the Engineered Bamboo Capital of the Visayas.
Gov. Bong Lacson yesterday identified the towns of Talisay and Cauayan as the Northerm and Southern Bamboo Hubs of Negros Occidental as it moves towards making Engineered Bamboo as a major industry of the province.
On the final day of the 2-day Cauayan Bamboo Show & Summit yesterday, Gov. Lacson cited Caiayan Mayor John Ray Tabujara for leading the establishment of a 100-hectare Giant Bamboo Park and Multiplier Farm.
During the final day Summit attended by village officials and farmers of Cauayan and nearby towns, Gov. Lacson expressed deep interest in the economic potentials of Bamboo.
During the Summit, it was bared that the worldwide demand for Bamboo by 2031 is projected to be worth P5-trillion.
Gov. Lacson also cited the environmental benefits, especially for flood-prone towns to be derived from planting along river banks, creeks and steep areas of the province.
In both the Northern and Southern Bamboo Hubs, Engineered Bamboo Processing facilities will be established to complete the value chain.
What is expected to come out of the two hubs would be Engineered Bamboo for export and high value finished products.
Sixth District Cong. Mercedes Alvarez also pledged support for the Cauayan Bamboo Industry Development Program.
