The successful Red Onion Production Trials in Dado, Alamada, North Cotabato is proof that our province has so much potentials to become a major agricultural production area.
All that is needed is putting our money where our mouth is which simply means government funds should be spent for projects which will boost agricultural productivity and address rural poverty.
Next month, our corporate partner in the Red Onion Production, Vetmate Farma Corporation, will conduct an Orientation Workshop on Red Onion Farming in Alamada to start our mass production of this highly-imported commodity.
Our target is an initial 100 to 200 hectares for Red Onion Production, a program which is getting the support of the Department of Agriculture Secretary, Francisco Tiu Laurel, Jr., who pledged to source funds next year for the establishment of an Onion Cold Storage Facility.
This is the most effective way of attaining Food Security and solving Rural Poverty and this does not need billions.
Giving away cash assistance, rice ration, slippers, shoes, caps, umbrellas and other non-essential items on the pretext of “helping the poor” should end.
This results in indolence and dependence on dole-outs.
