Gabadi, Central Province – Papua New Guinea, with an area of 46.2-million hectares and only 10-million people, could be the Philippines’ future source of food, especially rice.
This was the assessment today of the members of the Philippine Agriculture Delegation after visiting Gabadi, Central Province.
The country’s top rice farmer, Danilo Bolos of Sta. Rosa, Nueva Ecija, could not help but be deeply impressed by the vastness of the land and the fertility of the soil in Central Province which was visited today by the Philippine Agriculture Delegation.
“Grabe ang ganda ng lupa at perfect para sa rice farming. Dito na manggagaling ang bigas natin na tayo din ang magtatanim,” Dan Bolos told me.
What is more amazing is the fact that in just in the Gabadi area, at least 200,000 hectares are idle and could be used for agricultural crops like rice, corn and Sorghum.
Papua New Guinea is the new Agricultural Frontier of the Asia-Pacific Region.
