Respected UP Professor and political scientist Clarita Carlos today posted that recent developments in the global food supply had vindicated me in my consistent advocacy that we should produce our own food.
Thank you Prof. Carlos for stressing that I had been proven right in my position that the disruptions in the global food supply chain could pose a very serious problem to our country’s food security.
To address this threat, the Philippines must produce its own food.
This is an advocacy that I had long carried but I was either ignored or even ridiculed.
Prof. Carlos said the spiraling food prices now and the world logistics problem are my vindication.
Vindication is like a splash of cold springwater on the face after a hard mountain climb and it feels good.
But I believe that instead of crowing and telling my detractors that I was right and they were wrong, what needs to be done now is for the ship of state to adjust its sail.
I am referring to an immediate shift from a Pro-Importation Food Security Mindset to a Food Self-Sufficiency Strategy.
Nobody knows when the next Pandemic would disrupt the supply chain or when the next calamity would hit countries which produce food for us.
We have to do this now!
