We’re Raising ‘Wagyu’ In Very Hot Philippines!

Outstanding OFW Arnel Corpuz, who spent 11 years managing a Wagyu feedlot in Northern Australia, and I are venturing into a joint project – raising and breeding Wagyu in the hot climate of Polomolok, South Cotabato.
We have acquired (by installment😃) a herd of Wagyu and crosses, called Bragyu, from the Alzona Family of General Santos City who were left to care for the premium Cattle breed after the family patriarch died over a year ago.
One of the Alzona children, Alain, a Toyota car racer, asked me to take over the herd because he and his brother could no longer take care of the animals and they were getting emaciated.
We agreed on the terms and last week, the animals consisting of 22 Purebred Wagyu and 28 Brahman/Wagyu cross or Bragyu were moved to Arnel’s cattle feedlot in Barangay Glamang, Polomolok, South Cotabato.
Contrary to the common belief that Wagyu, a Cattle breed which originated from Japan and now mass produced in Australia, would not survive in very hot areas like the Philippines, this herd had actually lived for years now in the very hot climate of General Santos City.
Arnel has started the rehabilitation efforts on these very precious Cattle breed and hopefully before the end of this year, we will be able to see changes in their body and health.
Soon, we will be able to share young bulls to other farmers in Mindanao to improve our Beef Cattle stocks.
