In the 4-day journey I made in the six provinces of Western Visayas Region, I had validated that the areas have the potential of becoming major food producers in the country.
Negros Occidental, Guimaras, Iloilio, Antique, Capiz and Aklan are virtual sleeping giants in the country’s food sufficiency program.
Guimaras, for example, has a world-class Mango which could be exported while Capiz is a rich source of one of the best tasting Bangus.
All that is needed is for government to really focus on developing the potentials of each province.
This could only be achieved by introducing legislations which would ensure sustainable implementation of programs backed by the needed funds.
