Jaro, Iloilo City – Over 1,000 farmer-leaders from all the country today witnessed a unique competition involving farm machineries and equipment companies who fielded their productd in actual farm tests to determine which is the best.
The Makina Saka farm machineries and equipment derby is being staged on the second day of the Expo held for the 5th year here in Iloilo City.
The Derby or competition in performance of tractors, rice transplanters, harvesters and others is aimed at giving the farmers and agriculture officials the basis for the selection of the equipment to be procured.
This program is in line with President Rody Duterte’s policy that the procurement of government equipment and machineries should just be based on “Lowest Bidder” but mainly on the quality of the product.
The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF) in the past acquired poor quality equipment because of the Lowest Bidder Policy.
These equipment apnd machineries broke down easily and were discarded by the beneficiaries causing losses to government in the hundreds of millions of pesos.
The farm machineries and equipment derby will ensure that farmers now will be getting the best quality based on performance and quality.
