Work & Profit Share! Sorghum Gives Hope To Highlands Tribal Clan

Sorghum, a grains crop being reintroduced to Philippine Agriculture, gives hope for a better life to a highlands tribal clan in the outskirts of General Santos City.
Planted Dec. 31 and Jan. 6, the first Sorghum fields in San Jose, General Santos city showed good growth in spite of delayed fertilization.
Members of the Quia B’laan Tribal Clan have also found work applying fertilizer and taking out weeds from the fields.
Under a profit sharing arrangement introduced by the Southseas Agri-Aqua Ventures Inc. headed by former Senator Panfilo M. Lacson, the tribe will be getting a 60% share of the income after deducting expenses.
The sharing will give them a modest earnings until such time when they have learned the Sorghum farming technology and they will be allowed to do the farming themselves.
The members of the tribe will also be taught how to process Sorghum stalks left after harvest into silage which they could use to start a goat raising project.
With an assured market and guaranteed price, the Sorghum farming program will definitely change their lives.
