Worth emulating!

BATANGAS CITY — The city government assured farmers here of the continuous implementation of the yellow corn sufficiency program through various measures.

Mayor Beverley Rose Dimacuha assured the Batangas City Corn Growers Association, Inc. (BCCGA), during its 15th Annual General Assembly earlier this week, about the city’s sustainable Yellow Corn Sufficiency Program through the Office of the City Veterinary and Agricultural Services (OCVAS) free seed distribution.

Dimacuha said the city is bent on enhancing the program to help farmers produce more for more income as demands for yellow corn increases.

“I heartily feel this favorable report because what my father initiated then (as an agricultural program) has been sustained and more have benefited from this,” she added.

She also added that along with the intensified yellow corn farming, the city government is likewise intensifying gardening and livestock farming to raise the standard of living among farmers and the agricultural sector as a whole.

Meanwhile, Avelita Rosales, regional corn/cassava coordinator of the Department of Agriculture (DA) 4-A (Calabarzon), also lauded the efforts of the city government and its agriculture office for being the lone local government unit (LGU) that has achieved sustainable yellow corn farming in the region.

She also encouraged corn growers to increase their corn production and supply to meet the demands of the feedmills in the province.

She also urged young farmers to continue farm tillage owing to the aging population of yellow corn farmers in the city.

She assured that DA 4-A stands ready to help them in the form of lending out farm tractors and harvesters, specifically for members of the BCCGA.

Meanwhile, BCCGA president Victor Arellano also shared the good news on the increase in the number of yellow corn growers as he thanked the city government’s continuing support for their association members through trainings and seminars.

He also expressed gratitude to the local government’s distribution of free seeds and for allowing them free use of farm tractors, corn shellers and corn driers.
