Wrong information NO AVIAN FLU IN BUTUAN CITY; DIRTY FARM CAUSED DUCK DEATH By Manny Piñol

The Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) today said that poor farm management and overcrowding, not Avian Flu, caused the death of about 20 ducks in a farm in Butuan City.
Dr. Arlene Vytiaco, BAI focal person for Avian Influenza, said the Regional Animal Disease Detection Laboratory conducted an inspection of the farm following reports which appeared in the media today of a possible Avian Flu outbreak because of the death of several ducks.
The RADDL officer said the duck farm was overcrowded and there was very poor farm management, especially in maintaining cleanliness, which was identified as the immediate cause of the deaths.
The RADDL in Caraga Region also said that the ducks did not show manifestations of fowls afflicted with Avian Influenza.
“Overcrowded lang at marumi ang farm kasi nasa ilalim lang ng bahay,” Dr. Vytiaco quoted the RADDL officer as saying.
She, however, thanked the owner of the farm for immediately reporting the unusual number of duck deaths in his farm and the RADDL officers for conducting an on-site inspection.
