The Southeast Asia Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) in Tigbauan, Iloilo has started breeding the Australian Red Claw Crayfish because of its commercial potentials.
SEAFDEC Director General Dan Baliao said the Crayfish Breeding Program follows the successful production of Baby Freshwater Prawns or “Ulang.”
The Crayfish broodstocks that the SEAFDEC breeds now actually came from a private hatchery in Tacurong City.
When I visited SEAFDEC last week, scientists and aquaculture experts showed me their successful production of Baby Crayfish.
Dan Baliao said commercial production of Baby Crayfish could start later this year.
