Aqua experts from the Southeast Asia Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) have started a study on the viability of the commercial production of “Udang” or Freshwater Lobster in its natural habitat in the marshlands of Central Mindanao.
The team, led by Dr. Sheryl Avanceña, gathered basic water data using a Multi-Probe Equipment yesterday.
The SEAFDEC team which arrived from Iloilo Monday night also included Marwin dela Cruz, Therese Geanga and Janice Tambirao as members.
The team also asked Datu Piang Mayor Victor Samama to provide SEAFDEC with live “Udang” which will be bred in SEAFDEC Iloilo to produce Post-Larvaes for commercial production.
Dr. Avanceña also recommended the establishment of an “Udang” Hatchery in the area to produce PLs in huge numbers.
