A group of fisherfolk led by Ramon Magsaysay Awardee Roberto Ballon is now being linked with Middle East buyers of live grouper and lobster who earlier sought my help in establishing contacts with local food producers.
Earlier today, I arranged a Zoom meeting between a group represented by Philippine-based Iranian businessman Amirh Moggadashi and a representative of Ballon’s group involved in Lobster and Grouper farming in the towns of Kabasalan, Alicia and Mabuhay in Zamboanga Sibugay.
The linkage with Ballon’s group was arranged by the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), the agency which I headed for over two years, through Director Joey Recimilla.
The fisherfolk group said they are interested in partnering with Middle East investors to produce live Grouper and Lobster in big volumes.
Moggadashi said he will arrange a site visit for the Middle East Investors who are also interested in other commodities like premium rice, fruits and chevon or goat meat.
It was Moggadashi, a long-time friend, who actually reached out to me and sought my help in establishing linkage with food producers in Mindanao.
In spite of the fact that I am already out of government, I am happy to be of help in ensuring that our farmers and fisherfolk could gain access to reliable and profitable markets for their produce.
