Major Development! Marine Consolidation Center Up In Cagwait, Surigao Sur

The small coastal town of Cagwait, Surigao del Sur, classified as 4th Class Municipality, will soon be the center of Aqua-Marine Products Trading as a Dubai-based trading company prepares to establish Cold Storage Facilities and Lobster Production and Consolidation Center.
This was firmed up yesterday following our visit to Cagwait where I introduced the potentials of the town to Aras Iz, a Dubai-based Iranian CEO of Nuty Nuty, an international food trading company, and his wife, Fatemeh Moghaddasi who represented MET Air Express, a cargo airline based in Clark.
The Aqua-Marine Consolidation Center will have cold storage and Lobster Production Facilities where aqua-marine products will be brought for distribution nationwide and to the international markets through MET Air Express.
Actually, it was initially just Lobster Production which drew the Dubai-based company to Cagwait but after a caucus with the fisherfolk yesterday organized by Mayor Glen Batiancila, the fishermen told the couple that they also catch high-value fish in the seas including Yellowfin Tuna.
Surigao del Sur Alexander Pimentel, whom I talked by phone yesterday, committed full support for the project by offering the use of a provincial government property near the bay as the location of the consolidation center.
Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) National Director Demosthenes Escoto, whom I contacted by phone from Cagwait yesterday, also committed full support in establishing an Ice Plant to produce ice for the fishermen to be included in the 2024 budget of the agency.
Fisherfolk who attended the forum yesterday said they could finally hope now that they will no longer be at the mercy of traders and middlemen who dictate the price for their fish catch and the Lobsters.
