2 WOMEN DIE IN MAKILALA ROAD MISHAP

MAKILALA, North Cotabato –Two women were pinned to death and eight other persons were injured when the passenger jeep they were riding in collided head-on with a speeding sports utility vehicle in Makilala town, North Cotabato, Wednesday night.
It was the second deadly highway accident in North Cotabato in as many days days, following Tuesday’s incident, in which five persons died and 15 others were injured when a passenger jeep carrying a wedding party crashed into the rear of a dump truck on the Mlang-Matalam highway.
In Wednesday’s accident, Angeline Anjao, 24, and Editha Butal, 40, both of Barangay Kisante were pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital they were rushed to after the 8 p.m. collision in Barangay Flortam.
Seven of the injured were identified as April Niel, Coison Elat, Nazel Companion, Bernardino Jeralde, Catherine Rafols, Diane Coligado and Hemerito Gayunan, driver of the passenger multicab.
Gayunan said he was negotiating an uphill portion of the highway during a downpour when the descending Mitsubishi Montero crashed into his vehicle.
The SUV driver, Jovanni Palejado, was unhurt and surrendered to authorities.
