COTABATO CITY – The number of fatalities from Tuesday’s jeep-truck collision in Matalam, North Cotabato has climbed to five and the number of injured to 25, it was learned Wednesday.
Initial investigation showed that the overloaded passenger jeep crashed onto the dump truck in front of the Malamote Central Elementary School, said Matalam chief of police Chief Inspector Elias Colonia.
The jeep was full of passengers who were relatives from Buluan, Maguindanao on the way to a wedding in Pikit, North Cotabato, Colonia said.
The fatalities were identified as: Jobaida Abdulhawab, 50, Talutawan Kungan, 60, Guiamela Talutawan, 50, Rebecca Litugan, 40, and driver Juhanel Bansuan, 29.
The injured, who are being treated in the hospital, were identified as: Kiya Momontoc, 50, Sophia Usop, Gazona Mangkiang, 56, Abdul Tihad, 18, Norhanatita Mangkiang, 17, Mohammad Mangkiang, 6, Bailuna Mangkiang, Emmaddodin Abdulwahab, 64, Nanding Naguia, 51, Idiang Gusop, 64, Jehar Samama, 14, Zoraida Lumilis, Kadil Kahar, 13, Norhana Makalpin, 16, Abdul Mimisalam, 53, Nelson Kulicot, 15, Haura Salipaa, 13, Eden Khadi, 16, Kaisser Kolaw, 47, Mohamiden Kolaw, 24, Farida Madadting, 42, Alea Edsa, Bailyn Abdulsalam, 16, Lepi Usop, Lepi Pakil 31, and Dante Kadalima, 33.
In police custody is the driver of the dump truck, Salahudin Baliwan.
