In the many times I had the opportunity to talk to Davao City Mayor Rody Duterte seriously, I was able to gather his thoughts and views on several critical issues in governance.
I am sharing these views with the public because I believe that with his track record as a local government executive who transformed one of the most violent cities in the Philippines to become the 4th Safest City in the World and one of the Most Livable Cities in Asia, Duterte thoughts on governance would be helpful to other local government leaders.
The first in a series of articles which I will write on The Mind of Rody Duterte starts tomorrow with the issue of Police Corruption in relation to restoring people’s trust and confidence in government.
The article which will be posted shortly after midnight will share with the followers of this page Mayor Duterte’s thoughts on the country’s police force following the reported involvement of many policemen in criminal activities including gun-for-hire syndicates and the recent suspension by the Ombudsman of National Police Chief Alan Purisima for corruption.
I have decided to start the series with the article on the Philippine Police because of Duterte’s belief that good governance starts with implementing the law “without fear or favor” to regain people’s faith in government.
What will he do with the national police structure? Is he happy with the way the products of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) are performing?
What will he do with erring policemen and top police officers involved in corruption and criminal activities?
While Duterte has publicly declared that he is not interested in vying for the Philippine Presidency, I have decided to move a step ahead by sharing with the readers of this page his thoughts on very important and critical issues in our governance today.
If and when he decides to take up the challenge and heed the people’s call for him to lead this country, people will already have a preview of what is going to happen.
Abangan!
