MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) – A bomb exploded last night in Maguindanao, causing no casualties but damaged one bridge, a military official said today.
Col. Dickson Hermoso, spokesman of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division, said no one was hurt by the bombing, but the Magaslong bridge in the town of Datu Piang was slightly damaged. He said only light vehicles can pass through the bridge because it’s still being repaired by the Department of Public Works and Highways.
Members of the rebel group Bangsamoro Islamic Federation Movement (BIFM) were believed to be behind the bombing.
Hermoso said residents of Datu Piang and neighboring condemned the recent bombing. He added that the bombing disrupted trading because the damaged bridge is closed to heavy vehicles. This may also keep Muslims from going to mosques to pray during the Ramadan.
The bombing occurred two days after bloody fighting in Maguindanao and North Cotabato that has left six soldiers and at least 80 BIFM fighters dead.
