MANILA — Vice President Jejomar Binay and his entire camp are prepared to face all allegations, which they expect would further pick up until the 2016 elections, his daughter, Senator Nancy Binay, said.
For the senator, winning the presidency is “all about destiny, God’s will.”
“It’s just sad that the level of campaigning has not matured. Instead of the candidate telling people how he or she will resolve the problems, campaigning is about throwing dirt,” she said in an interview with radio dzMM.
Binay even joked that Senate hearings may even be held weekly until 2016.
“They are thinking of a lot of options. One is to impeach [Vice President Jejomar Binay] and can thus no longer run in 2016. Another option is to extend the term of the president,” she said.
The Senate probe on the allegedly overpriced Makati and office building was initiated by Senator Antonio Trillanes, who has expressed interest in running for a higher office.
Trillanes has said that he intends to look into other allegedly overpriced Makati projects, such as the Makati Science High School and the Ospital ng Makati.
Senator Binay herself has been dragged in the hearings the past three weeks, after it was alleged that she supplies the cakes that the Makati government gives to senior citizens on special occasions.
“I question the timing. This happened when I became critical of the [Disbursement Acceleration Program]. There is also an effort to ruin my name in order to discredit me and my opinions,” she said, as she again denied that she supplies cakes for the Makati residents.
In a separate statement, the Vice President said he is unfazed by the accusations as he vowed to continue doing his job.
Meanwhile, Senator Binay said there is no need for her father to appear in the Senate probe.
“Besides, some of the senators have already concluded that the building is overpriced,” she said.
After a resource person claimed the bidding for the Makati building was rigged, Trillanes said he already believes the Vice President is guilty.
“Whether or not they will recommend the filing of plunder charges, it’s not relevant anymore. There is already a case at the Office of the Ombudsman,” she added.
