EARTHQUAKE EPICENTER IN MAKILALA

MANILA, Philippines — (UPDATE 3 – 3:54 p.m.) A series of successive earthquakes, from a mild magnitude-2.6 to a relatively strong magnitude-5, has been shaking the North Cotabato-Sultan Kudarat area since early Saturday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.
The strongest quake, which struck at 12:26 p.m., registered at magnitude 5 with its epicenter 14 kilometers south of Kidapawan City, North Cotabato at a depth of 11 kilometers.
At 7:09 a.m., a 4.7-magnitude tremor also struck in the same area at a depth of two km.
The chain of tremors started with a magnitude-4.4 quake at 5:59 a.m., its epicenter six km south of Makilala, North Cotabato at a depth of one km.
The quakes struck in two waves, the first ending at 7:18 a.m., and the second starting at 10:17 a.m.
