DAPUDONG WORLD TITLE CONQUEST
SHOWN ON GMA TV NEWS 11 SUNDAY
Kidapawan City – The two exciting encounters between North Cotdabato’s Edrin “The Sting” Dapudong and South Africa’s Gideon “Hardcore” Buthelezi will be shown on GMA NEWS TV Channel 11 at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, July 14.
Hosted by veteran sportscasters Quinito Henson and Chino Trinidad the boxing special will feature three fights involving Dapudong, North Cotabato’s first world boxing champion.
The first fight will feature a 10-round bout between the 27-year-old Dapudong and Dondon Gimenea which was held in Baguio City last year.
The second fight will be the world title bout against Buthelezi for the vacant International Boxing Organization (IBO) World Junior Bantamweight title held in Johannesburg, South Africa on Nov. 10, 2012.
It was in this fight when Dapudong knocked down and dominated the South African fighter but lost the title fight by a controversial split decision which led to a return match last June 15.
In the rematch, also held in the Emperor’s Palace in Johannesburg, the fighter from Barangay Pag-asa, M’lang, North Cotabato knocked out Buthelezi in the first round to win the world title.
Dapudong is a product of the grassroots boxing program of the province of North Cotabato which was started when I became Governor in 1998.
