DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is known for his lengthy statements when discussing about criminals. He only had a short but strong words against them.
“I only have one statement. I told the criminals not to f**k it here in the city. Period. Thank you,” Duterte said then left, catching the media off-guard and preventing them from firing questions.
The mayor arrived at the Allied Bank along C.M. Recto St. at around 2 p.m. Thursday, over an hour after police operatives rescued kidnap victim Sally Chua and killed three of her kidnappers.
Upon arrival at the crime scene, Duterte initially checked the dead bodies of the two suspects who were killed on the spot inside a Mitsubishi Montero vehicle.
Duterte also scrutinized the recovered items, which were laid by the Scene of the Crime Operations outside the vehicle. The recovered items include assorted high-powered firearms, boxes of fruits and other documents.
After that, he immediately went inside the Allied Bank where the 51-year-old Chua, a resident of Del Monte, Quezon City, and another suspect were held.
Journalists were prohibited from entering the bank.
When Duterte went out of the bank, he told the media to listen intently as he would only give a short statement.
He even refused to entertain other questions and left afterwards.
The mayor already issued his stern warning against the criminals during his inaugural on June 30.
“To drug pushers, drug dealers, drug suppliers and perpetrators of heinous crimes, I say stop or leave. If you cannot or will not, otherwise you will regret it. Worse still, you may not survive your grief,” he warned after taking his oath as mayor of Davao for an unprecedented seventh term.
Duterte said time is running out for criminals in the city, and swore to the people of Davao to maintain peace and stability in his comeback.
“The clock is ticking away the hours from you. You can leave either vertically or horizontally. It is up to you. If you fight, the day ends permanently for you,” Duterte said.
Duterte, known for his hard-line stance against all forms of criminality, said there will be no let-up in the fight against all crooks.
“As a matter of policy, we will intensify our efforts in this campaign. I have said it before, I will say it again: Criminals have no place in our city except in our jails, detention cells and God forbid, in our funeral parlors should these criminals decide to fight it out with the authorities,” the mayor said.
On the other hand, Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte commended the Philippine National Police for the successful operation.
He said what is important is that the victim is safe.
He also issued a warning against the criminals.
“Message na sa tanang criminal diri sa atong nasud nga kung gusto ninyo mangamatay anhi mo ug Dabaw,” said the vice mayor, who arrived at the crime scene at around 1 p.m.

BIFF REBELS ATTACK ARMY POST IN MIDSAYAP
By Malu Cadeliña Manar
Friday, July 12, 2013
MIDSAYAP, Cotabato — Armed men, believed to be members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), attacked a military detachment located along Barangay Ulandang here, Wednesday.
Barangay Ulandang is located in the boundary of Datu Piang in Maguindanao and Midsayap in North Cotabato.
The suspects, based on the military reports, tried to get close to a road construction equipment parked near the detachment.
A private firm was hired to complete road concreting projects along Datu Piang-Midsayap highway.
The BIFF’s plan was set on fire the equipment, however, the rebels failed, the military reports added.
Members of the Army’s 40th Infantry Battalion managed to drive the armed men away by engaging them in a 20-minute firefight. The army fired 40-mm grenades on the enemy position.
The army said at least five BIFF members were wounded during the attack, which were carried by their companions as they escaped from the area.
The attack last Wednesday came a day after two explosions rocked Cotabato City, located northwest of Midsayap town, which killed a restaurant manager and hurt four others, including an enlisted personnel of the army.
