HONGKONG OFWs START TEXTING CAMPAIGN TO SUPPORT PISO-PISO PARA SA PAGBABAGO

North Cotabato’s overseas workers in Hongkong have started a texting campaign with each one of them aiming to reach 200 relatives and friends in support of the Piso-Piso Para sa Pagbabago advocacy campaign.
The OFWs in Hongkong, who attended the Forum on the Overseas Workers Investments Program and the launching of the Piso-Piso Para sa Pagbabago, at the Bayanihan Center in Kennedy Town, Hongkong, pledged their support to the political advocacy to make the people more aware of the issues involved in the election in North Cotabato in 2013.
Here is the presentation I made on the Piso-Piso Para sa Pagbabago before the North Cotabato OFWs in Hongkong last Feb. 24:
—-
Our Vision of a New North Cotabato will remain a dream if we do not succeed in changing the kind of governance that we have in the province now.
There is a need for everybody to contribute to the goal of bringing about a governance which has a vision and a government which cares for its people.
Following the American political example, it is my dream that North Cotabato will be one of the very few places in the country where political leaders will be elected based on their programs and vision for the people, not on the amount of money they spend during elections to buy people’s votes and the tons of rice they distribute to make people forget their problems.
I am running on a very low budget campaign. Our movement now is supported by the business community of North Cotabato which believes in our program of governance.
It is also my belief that following the American example, the electorates and people of North Cotabato must have a stake in their future.
It is because of this that we came up with a program called “Piso-Piso Para sa Pagbabago” which calls on people to contribute whatever they have to support our campaign.
What are the components of Piso-Piso Para sa Pagbabago?
The first component is Financial Contributions to the campaign. This involves issuing an appeal to all those who believe in our programs and vision to contribute so that there will be a political empowerment for the stakeholders.
At the end of the day, when politicians win without having to spend a lot of money for their campaign, they will be mindful of their actions as public officials knowing that they owe their victory to the people.
The amount does not matter. It could be One Peso or a Million Pesos. What is important is that you have a stake in the dreams that we have for the people of North Cotabato.
The second component is an all-out commitment to work for our success in the elections. You, overseas workers here in Hongkong could vote for Senatorial candidates, but you could not vote for local candidates.
But you could start a campaign right now by texting your relatives back home of what you heard from me today here in Hongkong, of the big dreams we have for the people of North Cotabato and the need for everybody to work as one in realizing these dreams.
This is the spirit of the Piso-Piso Para sa Pagbabago and I am proud to tell you that you, the Hongkong OFWs are being offered the opportunity to take part in this historic and epic struggle to bring about better governance in our beloved province.
Remember this: The future belongs to the Brave.
