I was deeply touched by the story of a young Bilaan mother whose husband left her when she gave birth to a baby with a very serious facial deformity called “meningocele.”
Meningocele is a large cyst, a muscle deformity which more often appears in the head and face and seriously disfigures the appearance of the child.
Left to raise the meningocele child by herself, the Bilaan mother of Kevin Mino, 2 years old, rushed to radio station DXND when she heard of Misyon Pagmamahal which I and Sen. Chiz Escudero are sponsoring.
In the third week of January 2013, Kevin Mino will be operated on along with other children with disfigured faces because of meningocele.
Dr. Ben Valdez of the Maharlika Medical Foundation who has been helping me in the medical missions in North Cotabato said American doctors who have specialized in facial restoration after a meningocele operation will be arriving to help.
If any one of you has relatives or friends with children suffering from meningocele or those with cleft lips or cleft palates, please forward their names to the message section of this site, attaching the photos of the patients.
Let’s give these poor children a better and brighter future.
