The son of the incumbent mayor of Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat Province, Richie Van Garcia, was one of the three skydivers who performed the death-defying jump from 6,000 feet for the spectators of the 1st Tulabong Festival in the M’lang Central Mindanao Airport.
The others who participated in the skydiving show were team leader Wilson Sonoria and Alvin Boyd Loreno, also of Sultan Kudarat.
It was Richie Van Garcia who suffered from a bruised knee in his second jump and it was Wilson Sonoria, who cheated death by cutting away his main parachute which malfunctioned and used his reserve parachute.
In this photo taken after their first jump, the jumpers – Wilson Sonoria (left holding a parachute), Alvin Boyd Loreno, and Richie Van Garcia (right) – are shown with Congressional Candidate Dr. Rod Escudero (3rd District, North Cotabato), Mayor Lito Pinol, former Congressman Jun Pinol and myself.
