As military sources confirmed the death of one soldier in the simultaneous attacks by suspected members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) earlier today, four armored tanks have reportedly left the 6th Infantry Division Headquarters in Datu Odin Sinsuat town, Maguindanao to reinforce the defenders of Midsayap town in North Cotabato.
An advisory passed through text messages said: “At about 7 a.m. Sept. 23, 2013, the group of Commander DM and Commander Abas Kudanding, both ALG-AUK (BIFF) harassed the barangays of Malingao and Plomoguen in Midsayap, North Cotabato.”
“Initially, the armed grp held hostage 15 school teachers in Malingao Elementary School and confiscated their personal belongings incuding cellphones,” the advisory said.
“Firefight still on going between responding 40IB PA and the armed group,” the advisory added.
Meanwhile, in an interview over local radio stations, BIFF spokesman Abu Misry confirmed that the BIFF was behind the attack on government positions in Malingao and Polomoguen but denied that the MNLF was involved in the operation.
Sources confirmed the death of one soldier in the gunbattle which is reportedly continuing in the area.
There were no reports of casualties on the side of the attackers.
