Two months ago, I made my 16th climb of the country’s highest mountain, Mt. Apo, as my way of manifesting my deep commitment to the protection of the environment.
Two of my children, Dr. Maria Krista Piñol-Solis and Bernhart Immanuel, a veterinary medicine student, climbed with me along with their cousins.
As in the past climbs I made, I planted seedlings of the endemic Tinikaran or Red Cedar and encouraged my children to join me.
To emphasize the importance of planting trees, I explained to the young members of the family that green mountains are the sources of water.
Once the trees are gone, the water sources also disappear never to come back again.
