Suspected members of the communist New People’s Army staged a dawn attack on the police station of President Roxas town in North Cotabato early today but fled after policemen who saw them coming fought back and defended the station.
One policeman was slightly wounded while witnesses said several wounded rebels were loaded by their companions on two Isuzu Elf trucks which they used in attacking the police station.
Gunshots rang for almost 30 minutes starting at about 3:30 a.m. today rousing people from their sleep.
Sources said the policemen were able to fight back after they saw the rebels coming in two trucks.
A gunfight ensued between the two groups prompting the rebels to pull back and retreat.
Activities of the NPAs have been frequent in North Cotabato lately. Two months ago, they exploded a land mine in Upper Pres. Roxas almost killing the mayor of the town.
Updates will be posted in this page later.
